Ikea Assault - The End is Nigh? May 16, 2011
Heard on the radio today - the Ikea restaurant assault case was in court again today (8th hearing!!).

Still, one of the accused has not attended a hearing - apparently out of the country on a "State Mission", and he has the papers to prove it. That would seem to be an indication that he is someone of importance in some way (?).

So now, they have until 5th June to turn up in court to answer the charges, and if they fail to do so the prosection has asked that the judge enter a verdict in their absence.

Amazing that you can be accused of giving someone the finger and have you passport confiscated to ensure you don't leabe the country, but you can beat the crap out of a pregnant woman and carry on travelling as if nothing has happened, and fail to appear in court on 8 seperate occasions...............

Nothing new, thats how it works here. Judge calls out both parties, if one is not present then he gives the date of the next hearing ( usually around three months ) and orders someone both be present the next time. And the that someone hears it from one ear and drops it out the other.

Guess the judge is getting tired after the 8th hearing and so will pass judgement next week. Usually its a guilty verdict in absentia lets see what the judge orders here. Also keep in mind any verdict passed in absentia can be automatically called to a retrial by the defendant. Which probably means another year of this thing dragging on.

If the guy manages it to keep this up for a couple of years, either the victims will get tired of it or probably would have left this place by then.

Except that if it was me and you had kicked the crap out of someone, i doubt we would be out of the country when it came to court.....most likely we would be getting bussed in from Al Awir to attend court.... mind you, having said that, i have read of cases where even accused people who are in custodt fail to attend court! How the hell does that happen??!
