I know its old news across the rest of the world, but as always we are the last to get it here. But HD viewing has finally arrived although very very limited but still its a start.

As some might know I recently moved to Disco Gardens and luckly its falls in the FTTH category ( fiber to the home ) Got my box from DU and finally am able to use my HDTV which I have owned for over 2 years for what its meant for.

Although I get around only 3 channels in proper HD but I'm just mesmerised but it  :D and love watching useless programming on LUXE TV although NG HD is quite fun too ! Best of all I dont have to pay anything extra for this unlike the HD service provided by Evision. And I only had to purchase a 50 buck HDMI cable so no setup was also required.

I know useless thread but one of those thing I just had to share :D

GO DU ! ( for now, hope they keep up the good work. I'm less than a week old customer with DU now but until now everything has been very satisfactory unlike Etisalat !)

Etisalat has also been doing FTTH for some old buildings in the city. Mine just got enabled yesterday. I notice only Discovery HD and Voom HD channels so far on e-Vision's Orbit package. It may take couple of years to mature with more channels (and Blue Ray discs) to come.

Orbit directly or Orbit through DU broadcast these channels in HD. I use to have Orbit directly and now through DU. Both times its in normal standard. Yes HD is still very much young here and sometime to go before proper HD viewing is available.

I heard Evision is charging a lot for the new decoders and HD service, is that correct ?

I heard that also, about 1000dhs, but I don't pay a penny so far, the technician said it's free of charge. They installed the unit, convert all my landline phone, e-Vision, and Al Shamil DSL. Maybe for the new customer?

DDS... wait... apparently they convert landline phone and DSL free of charge, even they throw a new wireless modem router (I used my own before).

according to them, i need to re-apply and pay again e-vision for using the new FTTH unit. though, i've seen some e-vision promotion ads with free decoder etc.

at the moment i just keep the old line for e-vision. i don't see the benefit to re-apply again, unless the new decoder supports recording ;)
