Hoping an Emirati can answer here.

Is there any folk law around Ghosts in the UAE - especially desert ghosts?

Oooohhhh. I think this could be a potentially interesting topic. I know in a lot of historic towns there are ghost walks. They're pretty fun. Let's hear some tales. And I don't think the original poster gives two shi+s if you believe in ghosts or not. Your personal beliefs are not the topic. If you've got a story or tale please share. If not, don't.

ok here goes this one, which i have been hearing since child hood..

There is a house in hamriya ( that happens to be right in the corner around the Hor Al Anz - Hamriya Signal / Junction ) .. the house is believed to be haunted by a ghost. I remember seeing the house's light going on & off at times at mid night when we used to pass by & the house was empty for years until recently people started staying there.

There is another tale of of the same house and the roads around that, at night one could hear sounds of a horse moving around, with a headless ( i mean neck less , without head ) ..person riding the horsy ..

this tale has been told to me by so many people & i know couple of them who has personally experienced this. i mean at midnight a horse roaming around, and a headless person riding it.. sounds awful but all these have been said by many people, so i cant really judge it.

from my personal experience, it was 2 years back on the night before eid al fitr, i was out of my house under a neem tree, smokin & over the fone around 4 in the morning, before prayer. a man & a woman, both in black dress & their faces were pale white.. came to me.walking by the ground.. that happens to be right infront of my house.

the lady kept silent while the man spoke to me that the lady was alone and came to him, he asked me to keep the lady with me for sometime while he got his car & he would drop the lady on to the main streets. i denied & i asked him to move on as police patrols here and it could be a trouble for all of us.. he said ok and both of them started walking... i returned back to the main door. I stepped my foot in.. and i suddenly turned back to see them.. and both vanished !! i was in a shock for a moment. i walked around a lil bit to find them.. but they were no where to be seen. now how can be someone so fast if they werent a ghost or jinn of some sort.. and i since that day .. till today i am wondering who they were..and what they wanted.. and where did they vanish !?

there are so many tales.. i would like to hear some personally experienced ones

Cool stories ahamed.

Here are two I have.

I don't remember this but I must have been about 4 or 5 years old. So its a story that my mum and sister always told other folk of.

I used to talk about the three leg cat all of the time. As I was only little at the time my parents and brother and sister thought it to be just something cute that a kid comes out with picked up from a cartoon.

My mum was talking with one of her neighbour's one day and the subject came up of who had lived in our house before us. The neighbor told my mum about an old lady who lived alone and taught piano students from our house before she passed on. She described her as very quiet and kept herself to herself and also........she had a three legged cat.

I spent quite a bit of time traveling around Thailand. The thai's have a strong real belief in spirits and ghosts. Me and a friend were staying in some beach huts run by a local family in the south of thailand. One night we were walking back along an old path with only moonlight to guide us. We were chatting quite loudly when my mate stopped in his tracks and almost jumped holding his hand to his heart while uttering 'f*ck'!.

I asked 'what, whats the matter?' - he pointed only about ten yards ahead in the bushes off the path. There was man sitting down looking at us smiling. He was wearing on of the traditional pointed hats weaved from bamboo. We both walked on thinking we would just walk past him and say hello and get the hell out of there. As we approached he just disappeared and vanished.

We were so freaked out that we broke into a fast paced walk and did not look back once.

Next morning we told one of the hut owners about this. We thought she would laugh or say yes that is the ghost of the old man and smile at us. Instead she looked upset and almost angry. Her words went something along the lines of 'you should not speak of this around her at all, and if you see it again do not walk back here, walk to the local temple and tell the bhikku's (buddhist monks).

Next day after we moved further down the coast.

Here is a good video of a spectre caught on film at hampton court - some believe it to be King Henry the VIII

I havent seen no ghosts...fortunately but this is what my friend who's lived here all his life believes:

While we were driving to Al Ain, one dark night, my friend needed to urinate desperately.... when he was waking out of the car into the desert... it was pitch dark out there and could scare even the bravest soul... i heard him say something under his breath

On asking him what he said when he got back, he mentioned that jihnn's (spelling) could be resting in the desert and he was asking them to please move because he needed to urinate.

He claims to have seen or felt a supernatural presence before !

of the scene i had about the man and woman in the black dress & white faces on eid's eve, i am still wondering who they could be and how come they vanish in a split second.

here is another one, a very recent one:

2 friends of mine where driving to khor fakkan/dibba , whatver the fcuk, to drop a relative.. on their way back, the driver was quiet sleepy but still driving and concentrating on the road. the second guy approached him after a while that if he had seen two people walking along the highway in kandoora. there was no human on the roads, but how come he see two people in kandoora ?? guess he was kidding, but he has said it to me seriously, so just wondering it.

ah.. sorta busy here.. will post in back with some serious details..

have anybody heard about the sounds coming from umm al quwain mountains.. this has been starred in gulfnews as well ..

ny comments ?
