For A Shirt! Ridiculous

For a shirt! Ridiculous Jan 17, 2008
Champion Cleaners charges 11 AED to wash and press a shirt. I think it's ridiculous.

In January 2006 the price jumped from 5 AED to 7 AED and in 2007 it went to 9 AED, now it costs 11 AED to wash and press a shirt!

I usually do not pay attention to those things but it so happens that before I went on holiday I took 20 shirts to the cleaners and when the bill came to AED 220 I inquired and they said "it's 11 per shirt - price went up". I usually have suits, ties, shirts mixed in so it is not easy to figure out...

11 AED is equal to over $3.00 per shirt where they are paying people way less than $1 an hour (in which time a person can wash and press scores of shirts)...

*Note: buy iron*

Time to get the F^%$ out...

With 220 AED you could have bought a decent iron. :!:

No it's not... or at least it wasn't.

Something that costs 44 dirhams here costs $25 in Australia (80 dirhams).

The devil is in the detail though, some things are getting expensive.

Buy washing machine.
Wash clothes.
Dry clothes.
Put clothes in big plastic bag.
Take to small Indian laundry nearby.

Pay 50fils per item to have them ironed. Collect when ready.

Not all of us have small Indian laundries nearby.

I wash and iron most of my shirts, but occasionally if I'm having a cbf week I'll take them to the cleaner for the full service.

They are everywhere, sure you can find one if you look.

But then you live in 'New' Dubai, so no old places there they can set up in.

What happened to the good ol' days when you just do the washing and ironing yourself?

There are a few small Indian laundries along beach road that aren't too bad and do a decent. They are a bit cheaper than Champion. Only tried the dry cleaning and not the wash/iron option though.

Stop moaning for goodness, sake, wash and iron you own damn shirts, really it's not that hard, and actually quite theraputic.

For once, I agree with her (although not 10% on the therapeutic part). It's not like any of you had maids and Indians to do your dirty work for you back in jolly old Queen's country.

It Seems Inflation Is Very High In Dubai.

I Would Do It Myself Instead Paying That.
