Food question Apr 03, 2012
Hi all Dubai expats,

I'm hoping someone can help me! Does anyone know where I can buy maple flakes and maple butter here in Dubai? It's for someone's very special birthday and I know she would be over the moon if I can find these two key ingredients for her cake! I know it's a bit of a random question but I can't find this anywhere and usually you can find everything in Dubai! :-)

Thanks everyone!
J

I have never seen maple flakes, but you can make them. If you don't have a dehydrator, I think you can do the same by putting the syrup on a cookie tray and bake at the lowest temperature so that the syrup dries out and doesn't burn (the same way you would make "sun dried" tomatoes). If you do this, it make take a couple of hours.

Scroll down and see "how to make":

I've never seem maple butter in the stores, but you can make it yourself.

The fact that you would actually to the trouble to make those two ingredients will probably have her circle the moon!!

Good quality maple syrup (I always use Canadian maple syrup) can be purchased at Spinney's. You can also try Choitram's and Lulu's. Geant is hit and miss. Not sure about Carrefour.
