I've got a new one a little bit closer to home Shaf.

Black Seychellois are generally not friendly. Very difficult to get a smile, hello, or a wave out of them.

However, yes there are indeed a large number of Americans (in America) who aren't interested in Geography - but are more into sports etc. If I was being introduced to Bubba who lived in a trailer park, I might be TEMPTED to racially stereotype, but I'd resist this temptation - and rather get to know the person.

I'm sure indeed there are many Keralites who are untrustworthy - I guess I met more of the trustworthy ones. Thanks for sharing your experiences too. ;)

Actually Americans who don't travel across the pond are not good on geography. For the most part, I think Americans aren't too interested in what goes on in other countries other than what they see on TV and read about.

The fact that North America is a continent that consists of Canada, Mexico, and the US with 50 states, many Americans feel that there are enough choices for them right at '"home" or near by Canada, Mexico, along with the islands Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, Jamaica, Bermuda, and for many that is the extent of travelling. Some even venture as far as Aruba, Belize, Curaco!!! Among these 50 states there are various cultures within the north, south, east and west, along with the cultures of Canada, Mexico and the islands. If the US continues to relax travel to Cuba, that will be another destination that Americans will flock to. Beautiful beaches and only hours away.

Except at a very superficial level. The White Europeans keep to themselves, the White N.Americans to themselves, the Pakis to their own, the Indians to their own lot. Any communication is at a very superficial level. Hence this question, because each Nationality is a mystery to the other. This is why I consider the UAE to be a very superficial society.......

BTW, BM welcome back in your reincarnation as "forget me not"! :D
Care to join me for some Chivas Regal? We seem to have run out of Chardonnay!

Thanks Zonker but BM is a strictly Chardonnay or G&T kind of girl! you can have the whiskey tho' I'll bring me own wine!

BTW I like those really big wine glasses where you can nearly the whole bottle in.

I have seen BM drink wine through a straw from a kids plastic cup round the pool at JBR. Those lifeguards are sh1t hot about the no alcohol rule! I'm a chav. LOL

Fair call Bora. The rest of the world, including Dubai, is only trying to copy the US,so they have no reason to leave.

How many of you actually have ever lived in the middle east ? , do you not know without the expats, they would all be long stretches of deserts traversed by caravans

As far as I know Shaf is neither african, nor Seychellois, but he may have been there and I should at least get an honest opinion.

I was thinking that North America consists of many more countries and extends to the Darien straight/swamp in Panama (i.e. includes Central American and the Caribbean). Did that change?

But on that note, is an "Actor" male or female? What about a "Doctor", "Engineer" etc. etc. etc.?

In general as people:

-Ethiopians (humble, positive and the best BBQ-ers in the world)
-Iranians (have a certain transquility over them)
-Irish (make great beer buddies)

In business:

-Germans (always offer a great quality/price ratio)
-Austrians (see Germans)
-Americans (only have money on their mind and that makes them predictable and I like predictability in business)

Well, the one Black Seychellois family that I came across in Dubai (hubby worked in my industry) was very friendly and had a good sense of humour. The Creole they speak is close to Mauritian Creole - we got on well. But a pretty limited sample and limited contact - so didn't make it on my list (I met more Germans, more often - for example).

(I can't imagine there are too many of them in Dubai - perhaps we met the same guy? What industry was your guy(s) in - the one I met was an executive at an insurance brokerage)

Perhaps you just pissed off the ones you met? :?

Cheers,
Shafique

Edit
Oh - and just saw the other post - yes, I have been to Seychelles - well to the main island Mahé, and the first time we went I was a kid and we stayed with a black seychellois family - they were extremely friendly. They kept pigs - and that really put my mother off - but apart from that it was a great experience. Really unspoilt beaches there - but the population is generally poorer than Mauritius and there is more crime. But the people - they are just people.

There are, however, loads of nationalities I HAVEN'T yet met. Moldovan, Peruvian (well, I may have met some pan-pipe playing buskers in London who were from Peru, and I'm sure Paddington bear doesn't count) etc ... but hey, I won't have opinions on those guys.

But thanks for the quiet chuckle.

Iran under the Shah was well on its way to becoming a thriving and fun country, to which expatriates would come in droves. That was before it turned into the theocracy that it is today....
