dubai diary day1 and 2

Day 1
Left glasgow airport on time with the good lady on a very good emirates flight.
We had a bit of a dilema at the check in as our combined baggage was 35 kilo overweight.(omg)
And the business people emirates charge an astounding 22pounds a kilo.
With a bit of quick thinking we put most of the heavy items my golf bag and carrying case then gave my parents some of the bull shit we didn't need,my girlfriends 20 pair of shoes.
When we arrived at dubai airport it took ages to collect the visa copy then even more time to do the retinal eye scan, not forgetting the 30min wait at passport control.
Got met with 2 employees from the company who took me to my accomodation.
The accomodation is in an area called Karama with i think is host to a lot of asians.
My first day of work included going to the main human resource department then to my work were i was issued with my uniform name badge ext, and given an introduction to my fellow workmates.
I then tried to get the staff bus home in which i got the wrong one . My 45 bus journey turned in to a 3 hour one.
That evening i decided to visit my girlfriend who lives in an area called jebel ali village to my astonishment is on the other side of dubai.(most definetly need to get a car son)
That night we had dinner in the oasis beach hotel , we went to the indian restaurant which hosts an impressive buffet. When you come to a middle east country you do sample authentic cuisine which sadly lack in Scotland.
Next day i returned to my apartment and decided to go walkabout.
i walked for about 1/2 a mile to discover spinneys which is very similar to sainsburys back home but with the addition of restaurant and shops.
I decided to try some sushi for my lunch which in comparison to the uk is very cheap.Washed down with 2 large bottles of water(dehydrated i think) and a read of the daily newspaper(very interesting name called GULF NEWS)
To my amazement there is a classified times and which i didn't believe at first but there are actually families looking for bride and grooms.(seriously)Arranged marrages with 4 lines of text unbelievable.
After i left i went back to go walkabout, were i discoved this internet place inside a shopping mall.
Walking in 45 degree heat will certainly take getting used to compared to the cold climate of scotland.
I havent met many people yet but those who i speak to seem very friendly. The mosst friendly people i have met are the lower paid staff like the sri lankans and indians.Which are more that happt to help me in my conquest of getting used to this new city>
End of dairy

Your first and 2nd day was very interesting. These days of my life I was so scared to go out, moreso go to Jebel Ali or anywhere around. I went here with no job, luckily I got a job within a week's time, my first interview, my first work. Oh well, those were the days. Thank you very much for sharing your experience.
