Here is a little cultural difference to do with cars that could only happen in the UAE.
I was due to have a meeting with a couple of Arab guys who want to sell my company their services as a consultancy. I have seen their portfolio and it looks quite professional, however there has been no fee structure discussed so far.
Anyway, the biggest, blingiest, pimped out Cadillac Escalade growls up outside my office followed very quickly by what appears to be a fully race prepared Porsche that must cost a small fortune to keep on the road.
Out from them emerge the two guys I am meeting, all smiling and happy and happy to boast to me about the power of the engine and the amount of money they have spent getting them modified.. They make all their livelihood from this business, they are not Emiratis and have to work for their living. They present their service and, no matter how good or cost effective their services are...I cannot consider their company.
How much are they charging their customers to have those kinds of cars?
If you turned up with that kind of attitude anywhere else in the world, you could expect the same treatment. Do it here and the guys would normally be seen as 'successful' and with the 'right image'.
I see them differently: Rip off merchants charging over the top for their services.
