Blue jellyfish....... Apr 11, 2007
Today I was on the beach and I saw few dead blue jellyfishes.
Caliber:....10-15 cm, I guess....

My question:

Are they poisonous??

I checked already the internet, but I can`t find any informations.

Thank you for your help.

Just look like blue jellyfish to me. But I guess not all of us have seen much of this world. A lot of things could seem weird/nasty to the callow eye.

I suppose I should be flattered by your strange use of the English language;

callow Show phonetics
adjective LITERARY DISAPPROVING
describes someone, especially a young person, who behaves in a way that shows a lack of experience, confidence or judgment:
Mark was just a callow youth of sixteen when he arrived in Paris.

Oh... no need, seriously. Just so long as you can understand ^_^

I can only hope you aren't too unfamiliar with that expression. If you are... then never mind. I'm just used to conversing with my peers.

Thanks Kage, but the jellyfishes I saw looked different.

I know the jellyfishes of your pic. They are very dangerous. They can kill you.
I don`t know the english name....
They live normally close to Australia.....every dangerous animal lives down under, I guess

What means "Kage"?

Well, still no idea, if swimming in the water is still a good idea.
Damn...

In case you haven't already seen, the Wikipedia has an extensive article on the issue, though I'm not sure about the blue pigmentation, do you suspect it could have been a reaction of some kind?

As you can see, I'm clueless on the Jellyfish issue, however if they are venomous I think it is a topic that should be aired. A definite "must know" for any local or frequent beach visitors.

Heh... yeah It's just his place of comfort though. The Rifle's reliable and loaded so yeah... no blanks. He also gets a free supply or Tropicana Orange Juice... straight from heaven, weirdly enough. Or maybe it's just some weird flying aliens sending it all from the skies.

Anyways, there's nothing to worry about... the people he shoots at aren't killed. Just severely injured.

What? Oh... Cricket. Not sure you would've realized... but not all Jamaicans watch or have interest in cricket.

Back on track folks:

The blue jellyfish look a little like 'Portugese Men O'War' which have an inflatable bladder that floats on the surface and allows them to move with the wind, but the blue pigmentation is not normal.

The other king of blue jellyfish, and by far the most common here in the UAE, is normally available in the local Indian grocery...you get your vegetables in it! There is a plague of these thin blue plastic bags drifting offshore. There is no such thing as recycling. There is no such thing as a conscience about littering.

Haha... I never thought of that one. Makes sense that people would mistake them for jellyfish though.
