Aussies And Sheds

Aussies and sheds Jun 24, 2006
One weird thing I've noticed as my parents are looking at properties in Autralia is that the Aussies seem to have a thing about sheds - why! Having looked at loads of websites many have a better description of the shed than the house - why?

I know that Australians love the outdoors but is a shed really that important?

So you're sure this isn't yours SBD? With the disco lights in the roof I thought ...
The Grape Escape, Leicstershire Owned by: Poacher

Shedtype: Pub Shed,Hut,Wooden
Features: I'ts special because it's an original "rip off," of one offered for sale by quite a few outlets. I sneaked the dimensions "a la James Bond" and got busy with my chop saw. Still adding finishing touches, completed tiled floor, dare I mention the recessed disco lights in the roof.

They need somewhere to keep the spare Fosters. You can only get a couple of crates in the fridge :? ...

Yes, I know, them Ockers don't drink Fosters. But no one's heard of XXXX or VB here.

Its because they all have pet Kangaroo's and dont want them in the house, and sheds stop them bouncing over the garden fence.

Bigger blocks of land. I don't know one person at home that doesn't have a front and back yard and people with pools are a dime a dozen-I certainly don't know anyone that doesn't have a shed of some description. Sheds are used to store all the outdoorsy stuff (camping equipment, surfboards, golf clubs, bikes etc) and the garden equipment you need to maintain your garden and the car (if you can fit it!!). People use them for outdoor parties and sometimes clad them for a rumpus or teenagers room. An additional feature adding value to the property, perhaps. :dontknow:

Australians also don't have the luxury of lowcost maids, gardeners, car washers etc. So they have to keep all their own equipment in the shed.

Sheds are also used to brew beer, work on hobbies, storage for huge spiders and snakes
