Monkfish is an extremely ugly fish.
Monkfish is also part of the Anglerfish family, which is why I was unfamiliar with the taste or the texture when I sampled it. Anglerfish are common mostly to the Atlantic, and as you know, Dr. D. is from the Pacific Region, where we indulge in more reef fish.
It is also referred to as poor man's lobster, because of the interesting taste and texture. I agree it does indeed taste a lot like lobster, but perhaps not as salty.
