Allright auto lovers,

this question is out of curiosity & my doubt as to different opinions.

What exactly is the spolier for ? Styling ( a body kit ?? ) or does it have any serious job involved.

Whats the point of it in drag races ( yeah tell me about the spolier function in porsche carerra as well )

easy one !!
according to me physics knowledge and peronal experience.
as the car go fatser the object (i.e. car) starts to get lifetd up in the air, making it easy to drift away or be unstable. A spolier would use the air flow to push the car down making it more stable on higher speeds. Yet, a spolier should be desgined for such a purpose, not all the spoilers would have this effect if on the same car!!! each spoiler has its own unique effect on each car.

Obviously, the faster one travels, the great the down pressure on the rear spoiler therefore pushing the arse end of the car down onto the road. This will give you more grip.

You may or may not have noticed that Porsche rear spoilers (in some cars) only appear when the car is travelling at higher speeds, this is to push the rear end onto the road, giving better grip, therefore better handling.

However, too much downforce will restrict the cars straight line speed. As such, a balance needs to be found between the two i.e. better grip and handling or straight line speed!

Not sure if this will help.

Everyone is lying. A rear wing is added for coolness. You get more chicks if you put it on a Civic or a Sunny. But you also need to buy the eggs first.

It is as every says to keep the car stable at fast speeds and provide some down force.

I remember my Corrado VR6 - it has an automatic spoiler that would raise at 60mph and then lower at 10 mph, best one I have seen so far by far :)
