What are your views on this car guys ??

They are offering a free 3 year service contract and a 4 year unlimited miles warantee.

I've been talking to the dealer who promised to see if he can import one in Yellow for me because the RS version is not imported to dubai.

Heard good and bad things about these cars (yeah, lets forget the past   ).

From all acounts they are a pretty decent motor. Think they now use the VW engine and a lot of stuff from other manufacturers, so in effect its not a true Skoda as they used to be.

However, not sure about the resale value here in the UAE. Its a bit like Hyundai. These guys are offering you excellent packages like you have stated, but I think that that is a ploy to get you into the showrrom as their name alone is not going to get you there.

Have a look at classifieds in Gulf news etc and see what the re-sale value is like.

A very good friend of mine had one in the UK, we all laughed at him (it was a company car) esp when we compared having spoilers on the car, he used to say, I have a built in spoiler, when I go over 40mph, the boot comes up, hence i can go faster cos I have a lot of downforce on the rear of the car! hahahahahahahaha

Thanks for the replies K and Yorky !

I think Skoda will soon be a force to reckon with in the Auto industry.... something like how Toyota was ridiculed in Europe in the early days but has now become the top dog.

I've been deciding between the Ford Focus, Mazda3 and the Corolla but then thought it would be prudent to pay an extra 200 bucks (over the mazda and focus) and get the Octavia instead.

I love the alloy wheels, xenon lamps, reverse sensors, and clean shape. Besides that.. its built like a tank !

I have doubts it will remain glitch-free beyond the warranty period. Besides, Skoda dealer maintenance is expensive. A guy with a Fabia told me some services go up to Dhs 900!

I think its the Fabia that gave Skoda a bad name in Dubai... The company is doing really well worldwide since the last couple of years.

They made a major push for visibility and a complete change of image after featuring in the movie XXX

Hehe, maybe it's for the better. If they are like this now, imagine the wait for parts if the need arose.
