Media Training strategies
When the media call your receptionist
If you run a business that attracts a lot of media attention, then you must be prepared for when the media calls.
Media training is essential for your CEO or Media gatekeeper for when the media is interviewing them, but media training is also important for teaching everyone within your organization about how to handle a media enquiry.
In this case we are talking about the receptionist.
There are a number of rules that the receptionist must adhere to when they are contacted by the media. And media training sessions will focus on these points
If for example your receptionist answers a call from the media enquiring about a rumor that your company is about to sack 100 workers then there is a very strict set of guidelines that must follow.
1. Place the call straight through to the correct person, usually your media gatekeeper.
2. Do not engage in any discussion with the reporter about the issues they are calling about. And do not give a personal opinion of the situation.
3. Do not promise to get back to the reporter that is not your job.
4. Do not give out any private telephone numbers to the reporter.
5. Be cautious and polite at all times.
Remember when the media calls make sure everyone is prepared.
