Media Training strategies
When the media call your receptionist
During our time offering media training to company’s and businesses, Ron and I are amazed at how often officials will ask us if it is ok to have more than one spokesperson for their company.
During our media training sessions this is the answer we give.
There is nothing wrong with having a hand full of media spokespeople for your company or business, however there are a number of rules that must be adhered to.
Firstly you must make sure that all of your spokespeople have been media trained. It is key that they know what to say how to say it and have a clear understanding of what the media wants and how the media works.
Secondly if you have more than one media spokesperson, you must make sure that when a story breaks and your company needs to make a comment all of your spokespeople are on the same page.
In other words, if a reporter rings one spokesperson and gets one story and then another reporter rings or interviews another spoke person and gets another story, confusion will reign.
Your credibility will nosedive and the media may even do a story about the fact that your company has two different views on an issue.
