University students as well, I shared a house with 9, also when I was in Banff, were rents are ridiculously high I was sharing a 400 sqft basement suite, 0 bedrooms with 2 girls.

I also have 2 close friends of mine both engineers, both doing well, CDN100/hour, equivalent to a minimum of AED 813,800 /annum they both live with roommates, you know why we have better things to spend money on. It is very common, that is why I smirked at Kannelli’s claims that this type of thing doesn’t happen in Canada. I know it does.

Also hmm I wonder if that is why I took such offence to people getting evicted without doing wrong. oh well if only people weren't busy with assumptions....

No, See the difference is while you were campaigning to get people to side with you when they started emailing and calling me to ask, I didn't answer them but rather caught up with old friends because I don't talk about people to others. You are just proving my points more and more.

btw comments like all whites are racist I take offense to, please don't make blanket statements.

Exactly Bushra, everyone is racist to some extent.

Shafique, overcrowding in apartment blocks should not be considered only as an issue for new immigrants in Toronto or any other major city in Canada, it is an issue for people living below the poverty line. I am quite familiar with public housing as some of my family members lived in them over the years (but they didn't overcrowd the apartment). (Hey Fayz, there is my classism coming out - look at the rich snobby family I come from  )That side of my family has been in Canada since the early 1800s and they are white. Low cost public housing and low-cost private apartment buildings may very well have large extended families or multiple families living together, but that is accepted in the whole building, and everyone pays low rents.

The only thing I will admit to is being perhaps a bit sexist in this thread. I don't think the overcrowding should be allowed at all if it is a family building with high rents - or the whole building should be turned into low-cost bachelor and bachelorette's flats. However, the bachelors are my main issue. Large groups of single men gawk at women. I'm not going to be PC about it. It is a fact that women are gawked at quite a lot in Dubai! You can't expect the women in the building to feel comfortable if they are outnumbered by a large proportion of single males. If it is only this one apartment then things might be fine, but Canadianleafnation's first post says that other flats are being offered to companies by the landlord, so there could be more large groups of men moving in.

We can all speculate and "what if"on the information that was posted. There are lots of people getting screwed over, in my opinion. If the building is not zoned as a family building - only villa areas can be - then perhaps Canadianleafnation and the other families not happy with the situation can move out. That leaves the building free for the landlord to fill with large numbers of bachelors and bachelorettes. Problem solved.

Fayz, I have spoken to only three people! Cargirl, Wafaey and Ian. I have told them what you said about my character and how I didn't appreciate your pretend friendship. This is also what I have said to you, so again, I have said nothing behind your back that you haven't heard straight from me. I have spoken to no one else about this and have been rallying no one. You and I falling out has nothing to do with your friendships with anyone else, or my friendships with anyone else.

And if by chance anyone else doesn't like my character then they can feel free to bugger off as well. I'm completely comfortable with that. :D

So you guys know of cases in Canada where expensive family buildings have shared accommodations with regular occupancy as well as overcrowded occupancy like this case we are talking about in this thread? I haven't heard of it.

I went to university as well and students are always looking to save money. None of the people I knew through my classes etc. ever lived in a house or apartment that was as crowded as what is seen here in Dubai, just to save money. I had friends in 5 bedroom houses and they had 5 people living there with friends coming and going for short periods of time. Sometimes if girlfriends or boyfriends moved in the occupancy doubled, but only doubled - not tripled or quadrupled! In any case, the neighbours who were not students were constantly pissed off about so many students living around them. They said their property value went down and the area was considered undesirable because of traffic, noise and hygiene. Guess that is an example of racism, correct?

Fayz, learn how to detect sarcasm. You are offended by a lot, perhaps more than even me, only you keep it very quiet until BOOM, you crap all over someone (but only who fits a certain profile). I suppose that only brown-skinned Canadians are immune to racism and fit to pass judgement on others. Smug indeed.

Kanelli - some may read the above post and the one immediately preceding it saying 'in my country 16 people don't share a villa' and question what the underlying assumptions are that leads to this conclusion, given what was written in the first post.

As the original message says that the 'bachelors' have so far been quiet and well behaved - it seems strange to me and others (it seems) that opinions like the above are written.

Whilst race was not mentioned I think everyone is assuming that the bachelors are non-white and to some, the view that having these guys as neighbours is abhorent is tantamount to racism. Now, if Canadian were to shock us all and say that the bachelors were in fact white North American mormons - all our assumptions and innate prejudices would be exposed.

My personal gripe is why condemn a group of guys (I am skeptical about the figure 16!) when they haven't done anything yet. These guys are human and not all of 'them' are voyeurs or potential molestors!

Just my 2 penneth worth.

And live harmoniously and stop hypocrisy. :D It's just emotion that has taken us over. I am dealing with this hypocrisy everyday, as this is part of my job. Tenants complaining over the existence of bachelors in other flats.

I tell them to read the contract & the tenancy agreement from baladiya as well, then complain. Hypocrits! At least those bachelors can pay while those hypocrits have all the guts to complain after issuing a bounced cheque!

Some of us become so high profile, high maintenance with lots of fuss when stepping on dubai ground. Then complain about rent hikes?!

There was no pretend, sadly a friendship with you was just a mistake that I didn't realize until too late, I'm sincere in most everything I do. I'm sorry I didn't realize Kanelli was one of the 99 names of the person that is the only person allowed to judge.

Why did you feel the need to talk about our relationship with others? hmm that just again cements what I was saying above. Just like you use to complain about 2 of the above mentioned people to me and others, when I would state my feelings which is not to gossip about others, this kind of childish behavior is what I’m seeing more and more of from you, oh well I'll still keep treating people like friends until they prove otherwise, I was raised to give people a chance whether they be 16 underprivileged workers or yoda the a$$hat. The world I believe would be better if people didn’t make judgments beforehand.

Keep writing you are proving your character more and more with every word. I'm friends with everyone until they prove it is a waste of my time, only in the last 2 days have you truly have shown your colour.

Again I implore you to look in the mirror, you need to step back look at this thread again from start to finish in a calm and rational manner.

PS at least if you were Freza you wouldn't be backfooting and jumping from accusation to accusation you'd be able to clearly state and sell your point, don't belittle asc_26, that's just mean.

Yes Shafique, there is a lot that hasn't been written clearly here. That happens in most threads and can cause a lot of misunderstanding.

I still disagree that this is about race. I have drawn the comparison to the neighbour's attitudes in student areas in university towns. The neighbours say the property value goes down, and the area is considered undesirable because of noise, traffic and hygiene. The neighbours are prejudiced against students not because of their race, but because of their experiences with them. The apartments and houses were messy, there was lots of noise, and there were parties and inappropriate behaviour. Not all apartments and houses were filled with such students - but a heck of a lot were.

Have you considered that Canadianleafnation actually talked to the landlord who told him he is renting the apartments to companies for the workers to live in en masse, and the landlord confirmed 16 bachelors living there? Maybe he even spoke to some of the guys and asked how many are living there because he sees so many people coming and going. Maybe he did count them! Who knows!

You are right that one apartment full of 16 bachelors may not prove to be a problem. However, it might very well become a problem, and more apartments in the building could fill up with bachelors and bachelorettes. That means more noise, more traffic etc. Other apartments with small families did not pay high rent for the place to become filled with budget accommodation for hordes of workers. Even if they are British, German, South African - it doesn't matter. Overcrowding is overcrowding! (And single lonely men are single lonely men...)

Yes, Canadianleafnation has the right to complain and the right to move. I suspect he and other families will move out if the landlord decides to fill the building with low cost bachelor and bachelorette accommodation. Like I said before, problem solved.

I'm not going to speculate any further and I have made my points and am just sounding like a broken record.

Think what you will of me and my opinions, but remember to consider your own biases.

Other people in this thread were also anti-overcrowding. Has Scarlet showed her true colours to you with her response? No comments for the other posters as well? If it has only been this thread that makes you think I am terrible, why all the pot shots in other threads over the past few months. Why the discussion of other threads like the Danish cartoons (a Muslim issue, surprise surprise!) compared to the Smutty Avatar fiasco - supposedly hypocrisy on free speech, and also the Saddam thread (surprise surpise, another Muslim issue!)? By the way, did you address my response to you on that? Guess you like to dance around too.

You told me on Messenger that I come off as a racist, classist snob on the forum and in person. Is it really true that that has only been your assessment of me over the last two days? Give me a break, you are so transparent!

You have an interesting view on Freza's posting stlye. You might want to do a little more reading of her posts and then come back and modify your claim. You like Freza because she shares your political viewpoints. You pretend you don't read the politics forum, but you do. You see her attack other people personally but never speak up. Now you are protecting asc from my "belittling", hilarious! The difference is that you feel it is okay for people to attack your "friend" kanelli, because you don't like my political views. I am fair game because you want to see me ripped apart for not sharing the same views as you. Most of all, you like to watch other people do it, so that you don't get your hands dirty and wreck people's image that you are a nice, laid back guy who is kind to everyone. Like I said, I know what your biases are, do you?

Keep the posts coming Fayz, because they serve to show people exactly how much hostility you had hiding behind that veneer the whole time you were pretending to be friends with me.

hahaha you are sad, oh well I'll keep feeding you.

I really don't have a political view as I feel by my own admission I don't have enough information to make a clear judgement about many issues that are happening today and no I do not go and read the Politics forums, I rarely do on occasion I click on view posts since last login which shows politics but rarely do I read in that forum.

I'm a coconut by my own admission, (maybe look up what that means before responding)

People will make their judgments about you and I, as I mentioned I'll be able to sleep tonight with a clear conscience. I’ve always been true to you. See me saying you aren’t driving a safe standard vehicle I never consider a direct dig at you, just stating a well documented fact, but no bother like I said, this thread and the last few days have proven very interesting.

If a friendship ends because of differing views on housing and a single situation that does not directly reflect on either of us, I guess it proves how silly I was to believe we had a friendship with foundation, lesson learned.

You do make me laugh you accuse me of stuff but don’t offer any evidence. I make observations and provide examples you change the subject.

Continue commenting and don’t forget the

At the very least I'm improving my post count.

Actually, you didn't give examples Fayz, and you have disliked my opinions for a long time - just quietly. I have explained that I am no where near as hypocritical as you perceive by explaining my viewpoints and how they aren't in fact hypocritical. I also pointed out that some of your other friends have been quite hypocritical, yet they didn't face the treatment you have given me. Again, why I am so special... I think I know.

The SUV thread did not go as you say it did, go back and read it. I have confronted you twice on Messenger on some posts you have made that I felt were taking jabs at me. I asked you what was up and you brushed me off.

You have had plently of chances to debate me or state your opinions of my opinions in forum threads and yet you say nothing. Only later do the passive aggressive hit and run posts come along.

You were two-faced and I ended the friendship after you said I was racist, classist and snobby. When have I ever said such nasty things to you? I can do without false friends thanks, and you were a false friend.

I'd like to suggest Freza as a replacement. Enjoy! :D

NO. I do insult people (only to deserving ones) in a subtle way. Who isn't? I can participate in a discussion but with some preferences. :D Discussions as in discussion without dirty laundry being aired. Discussions that would stick on topic - sometimes off topic for fun - instead of stabbing & jumping into out of topic conclusions. Discussions with worthy rebuttal.

Ah yes, so you are familiar with books like this, again believe what you need to.

For those that are lurking, highly recommend this book, a great read and you'll argue better than DF royalty.

and yes I did give examples as mentioned my last post just take the time to read this thread

I'll give you another example though that you'll side skirt, you have started classing yourself as white Canadian and me as brownskinned, hmmm that in my humble opinion is racism as well. I've lived in Canada longer than you have and yes I do have a tan. Is it because of this tan that you are assuming I have differring political viewpoints than you? or is more because of my socio economic background? can you give me an example?
