Does Living In Dubai Cause Hair Loss?

Does living in Dubai cause hair loss? Feb 08, 2007
Hi---I know it sounds silly, but I need to ask you this. When I got here, my hairdresser said to be cautious because a lot of women find their hair falls out. This was corroborated by the women I knew who had lived here for a long time. It started to happen to me. Luckily, I have (had) really thick hair, so it doesn't look too bad, but I looked around my office and the women all display some kind of hair loss: the circle at the beginning of the part, the super-wide part, the general thinning...and every pharmacy stocks plenty of hair-loss products. I went to see a dermatologist who said he has hundreds of patients that present this problem, and he thinks it's stress. He charged me 1500 for a blood test that he said was normal. Basically, he has nothing to say and has no clue.

I'm interested to see if others have had this problem, and what they've done about it, if anything. I also want to know if you know someone who has left Dubai, and if their hair has come back afterward.

Please help!

Yes it does happen! A very close friend of mine went through it as well, but after seeking treatment, as well as examining her diet and trying to reduce the stress in her life.... I am happy to say her hair has grown back.

I think basically because the first 3 months in Dubai can be hella stressful. That and the water is very 'heavy' and can cause scaling of the scalp.

I never get dandruff but I was recommended to use dandruff shampoo to combat scaling, and it helped me. My hair never fell out, but then I have more hair than a Wookie on my head, so would never know.

yes it happened to me! Frequent holidays out of here help. it is the stress and the water and weather.

Try using nizoral shampoo about twice a week.

or i have switched to using a shampoo bar for hard water that is available from Lush in city centre.

Also avoid wheat and take fish oil capsules

And very important: stop stressing out particularly on the roads and in traffic. The build up of stress and anger will effect your hair and skin as much as the water and weird temperatures do.

Well, it's called heavy water because of the high concentration of minerals and metals in it. It's not really that dangerous, but can lead to bad dandruff, dry skin and dermatitis.

It's not going to kill you.

What makes it heavy is the desalination process.

Hi,

Yes, when we moved to Dubai first, my Wife and I found our hair was falling out, so, we bought a special water filter that attaches to your tap (we bought it in ireland) and we hooked it up to our home shower and hey presto, no more hair loss!

Some of our friends have bought them in Dubai since, i will try and find out where

Living here doesn't make your hair fall out. Using the water does though.

I've recently had a no.2 haircut and was aghast to see a 25-fil-coin sized bald spot at the back of my head! Going bald is certainly not in my genes so I think it might be fungal since it has been very humid lately.
Are there reputable dermatoligists here in dubai? :?
