Important Note: DIFF does not provide accommodation or pay for travel expenses for volunteers, as we rely on volunteers who live in the area. IMPORTANT INFO ON VOLUNTEER SHIFTS AT DIFF: Your volunteer experience with DIFF is as almost as flexible as you and your schedule, but we do ask for a minimum of commitment of four shifts total, which includes pre-fest work as well. The following are brief descriptions of the positions that will be filled by volunteers, to help you choose an area of interest at the recruitment session. There are a limited number of Pre-Fest volunteer positions that all happen before the Festival begins. You can apply for a position only by attending a volunteer recruitment session. PRIMARY VOLUNTEER POSITIONS For all of the positions in this section, you can sign up for a shift and be guaranteed to be working it (unless you’re on the Waiting List). Theatre Positions – There will be handout for a full description of each of the positions available at the screening venues, as well as the different venues. Volunteer Floater/Runner Floaters need to be flexible, and ready and willing to do anything. In this position, you would report to the Volunteer Office at the Madinat Jumeirah Headquarters. From there you may be sent out to any venue (transportation will be provided if needed) to take on any role. Floaters will help at venues (such as the theatres) which are missing volunteers or are busier than usual. If there are no immediate needs, then Floaters will help with assorted tasks and run errands in and around the Volunteer Office and Headquarters. THE WAITING LIST For each and every position and shift, there is a limit to how many volunteers we need, anywhere from 1 to 40. If other volunteers have already filled up the available spaces for a position that you are interested in, then feel free to put your name down on the Waiting List section of the sign up sheet. If someone cancels their shift before the Festival starts, then you may be phoned or emailed to see if you’re still available to take the shift. PRE-FEST VOLUNTEER POSITIONS Pre-Fest volunteer positions all take place before Dec. 10th. They are a great way to earn screening vouchers ahead of time, giving you more time to watch films during the festival. Many of these shifts happen during office hours on weekdays. Some of them are open to automatic sign up, and others are Pending Approval. Please pay close attention to the shift dates when signing up for these positions. Volunteer Recruitment and Volunteer Training Session Help We do need a few people to help with the set up, check in process, check out process and other tasks. Oops I did? Didn't notice till you told me.. I've actually joined the dubai film festival as a volunteer last year- Dec 2005, for 3 days and it was awesome! Got to see many celebrities, attend& support an event that is only attended by international and arabic celebrities and CEO's of TECOM and who are chosen to be given a ticket worth $1000. Exclusive events, the red carpet, first screenings and meet lots of fun people too! Almost like a nonstop networking event. Laslty you get a nice looking certificate of thank you/ appreciation with your name on it and signed by Shaikh Mohamed Al Maktoum. The dates and timings are so flexible due to the constant events before and during the festival, so it's easy to join them! Hopefully I'll be able to do t this year again.

Volunteering 'usually' means not getting paid.
Go for the experience - trust me; its fun! And next year they'll hire you and pay you if you did a good job. :)
