| Hey Guys, Bit of a weird topic I know, but I dug out the old blender and am in smoothie making mood, particularly as trying to get into shape a bit more and smoothies make great snacks or meals in themselves. So wondering if any of you have any good recipes for them. My favourites so far is banana, strawberry and honey mixed up with yoghurt and skimmed milk - mmmm yum! Chocolate recipes or anything with uber amounts of calories or fat are a no go. |

| 1) chocolate + banana + milk + ice = yum can use chocolate low fat powder & low fat milk 2) pineapple + pineapple juice + a little bit of coconut milk + ice can add some vodka or gin if you like 3) coffee + chocolate + ice + milk = excellent mocha frappicino |

You can keep up the 'young man' references all night sweetheart! | Hate to throw a damper but calorie-wise, nearly all smoothies are huge. Even if you make them with low-fat milk/yoghurt, they are very rarely a low-calorie option. That's not to say they're not packed with nutrition, but you have to consider how much fruit you use to make a smoothie (or even a fresh fruit juice). There's a little waffles-and-smoothies cafe in Lamcy that has a vast range of smoothies and fruit drinks, and it lists all the nutrition information. That said I think it might have a few errors and inconsistencies, because one of its banana smoothies was listed as about 575 calories, whereas a similar drink but with strawberries on the next page had only about 300 calories. Either way, much as I love them, they're not much of a dieter's friend. Think about fruit juice: would you ever sit down and eat six whole oranges or six whole apples? No, it would take ages, and you'd be sick of them after 2-3. But you're likely to be drinking at least six pieces of whole fruit (and more if the juices are concentrated, which most carton ones are) if you take them in juice form. |
