| Hi , I have been offered a position in Dubai in late August which is very well paid, and I was about to jump at accept, then I read some article about peopel being stopped for poppy seeds and minute traces of hash etc I this normal or a very isolated incident?? My flat mate smoke does that mean I woudl get done? (secondary smoke) Do i buy new clothes (and shoes) ... I knwo this sounds so PARA but got my thinking ... please get back for a ex pat . |

| Yes, they are very strict on possession and use of narcotics, including some scheduled medicines. I haven’t heard of anyone tested for secondary smoke inhalation or swabbing the undersides of their shoes – so this may be a little bit paranoid. Make sure the clothes are all washed and clean and you shouldn’t have a problem. |

| There were reports of a Swiss man detained at the airport because a couple of poppy seeds were found on him. Another chap was stopped because some grass was detected on the sole of his shoe (he was let out eventually, don't know about the Swiss guy). Authorities will do urine and blood tests if they're suspicious, but I don't think it's a common thing. Be careful though. Here's more about drugs in Dubai . |
