Can one ride a bicycle in Dubai? Is Dubai suitable for that? If positive, what kind of bicycle is the best for Dubai? Won't there be problems with that? Thanks in advance people.

You can ride one, helps if you have a death wish though

You can ride a bicycle, atleast in the evenings.. If u wish to use it for commuting n not as an exercise/entertainment option.. I agree with sage :).

Now that the weather is better I have seen a number of bycicle riders. There are plenty of places in the newer subdivisions and marina area with sidewalks and paths for riding. I would not recommend riding a bycicle on the open road - frankly driving a car is only "recommended" out of necessity. Get a mountain bike less chance of ending up on your as$ as there is sand everywhere and every chance of slippage, etc. |

im thinking of getting a bicycle to ride in jumeriah, instead of using the car all the time especially where i live!

Not a single person riding a bicycle there? impossible at all? i would like to ride around the city when i have free time and for commuting as well, not for sports.

"There are no official statistics on the exact number of bicycles in Dubai since there is no requirement to register them, but officials estimate a figure of 100,000 bicycles, 80 per cent of which are used for transport by the low income earners." from http://www.dubaicityguide.com/geninfo/news_dtls.asp?newsid=1443

Hehe. I have a mountain bike sitting in my hall. And another one in the box. I won them years ago. I doubt those were in the count. |

Timo, it depends on where you plan to live whether it is safe to ride a bicycle or not. Well, I should say "safer". I live in Emirates Hills and you can definitely take a leisurely ride through the community and around the lakes. I don't recommend it as a mode of transport to get across the highway to Internet City or for getting around anywhere downtown with lots of cars. Pedestrians hardly get any respect on the sides of the roads, let alone cyclists. :(

I use my mountain bike all the time in the winter, its actually quite nice to get around in the evenings, however you have to be careful of the drivers...a person on a bike here is considered to be 'expendable'. Keep death off the roads...ride on the pavement!   Knight
