Question about Arrival

So I am leaving for Dubai tonight, my work visa is not ready yet.....and I bought a one- way ticket. I have a US passport...am I gonna have a problem since it's one way?

Quite possibly. I was in a similar situation coming from the UK. The travel agent told me that I had to have a return or I would not be able to enter the UAE........so I bought one. Can't the company you are going to work for do something?

well I have a letter from them, but not the official visa stuff. Everything happened really quickly and I bought the ticket earlier than I maybe should have (maybe because I wanted to party on NYE :P) So it wasn't processed in time and I already bought the ticket. What about if I say I am buying a return ticket from Dubai when Im really not?
