Hi all, I've just been offered a job in Dubai and I've got a question. What's the quality of the public transport over there? Although I can drive, I'm not the greatest fan of it. Is it possible to get around using the public transport? Thanks, Shaun

in short non-existant. Although a train system will be available sometime in 2009 and a bus service does exist currently.

Hi, Thanks, so how expensive are the taxis? Cheers, Shaun

I posted the cost somewhere before. The flag fall is AED3 and the fares are based on distance....listened to enough cabbies whine when they are stuck in a jam!! AED20 gets you a fair distance, say from Jumeirah 1 to City Centre Mall, Jumeirah 1 to Oud Metha Road/Wafi City Mall/ Planet Hollywood/ The American Hospital/ Lamcy Plaza. Do a search and you'll see the cost. Public transport is apparently awful and there are no nice bus shelters so summer would be great for waiting for a bus (NOT!!). There are furture plans for a rail system but it hasn't started to be built yet. Cars are cheap and so is petrol.
