Buying is not a bad option. An apartment at Al Hamra will set you back around 1m dirhams. Living there would probably by nice once it is all finished in a few years. RAK town looks pretty dodgy to me.

The whole of RAK feels like Sharjah's industrial area.

I bought a house there earlier this year as a weekend pad and the prices are rising rapidly. There are massive delays with handover at present due to lack of power and water supplies. Depends where you are sitauted with regards to building noise, they haven't started developing either of the two islands yet, so beware of looking onto those. The build is Ok in my opinion, but the fittings are crap. I got in early enough to get them to leave out kitchen, bathrooms, wardrobes etc Once the mall and the '7 star' hotel have opened it will have a bit more life. It is very quiet there, so depends what you are looking for........
