| My apartment rent contract would be expired on 1st August. Just now I called the agent who manages the building that they would increase the rent price from 65K to 72K (that is 10%+ cap) non-negotiable (non-furnished 1BR in Bur Dubai). * Can someone point me a valid and official statement of this increase (e.g. from govt website)? I heard about max 7% cap. * What would be the length of notice for the agent to notify the tenant? It's not written in the contract, but I thought there's a rule by law. I said to them at least 2 months they should inform me, but he said only 15 days required to notify before termination of current contract. * What's the detail procedure to file a complaint against the property agent/landlord to the govt's housing department. |

Read through this article 7% is the max and that is providing they did not increase last year. http://archive.gulfnews.com/articles/07/01/01/10093575.html |

Thanks for the link, I'll go through it. BTW, this is my first contract (one year) with them, so can it be applicable? Update: "No rent increment shall also be made in 2007 on properties whose contract had already been signed in 2006 with a new tenant, Article 2 of the new decree said." I guess it's applicable in my case. Great! Now I need to find the official decree article/document to show them. Anyone can help where I can find it? |
