Absolutely true |
| Ali-1974 |
| Although the majority of Dubai's population consists of many nationalities but I increasingly hear of poeple complaining about racisim in Dubai particularly from Indian and Pakistani people who work in Dubai. I hear that better jobs & salaries are offered to European white expats. Indians are treated badly by the locals as well as other white and non white expats. Please comment. |
| Liban |
| Western expats, GCC members, and some other arab nationalities are treated the best. Indians, philipnos, pakis, bangladeshis, asians in general are treated with disdain. Not always the case as some asians have made it in the upper echelons in Dubai but its rare... |
| Ali-1974 |
| So you also think that Dubai is a racist city? to me it apears to be much more racist than some European cities. what about black people , where do they fit in all this ? |
| Liban |
| More racist than Europe?? Hehe... I doubt it, continental Europeans are racist swine par excellence 8) Seriously, its racist but not the kind of racism which has people scream go home ya paki or something like that.... Its more like during an interview they say we want a dark skinned laborer from India or we want a lighter skinned European white collar engineer, etc... As for blacks, I dunno... I think they will be in the same category as Indians for African blacks, western blacks may not fare better... Worth noting that in Islam, all forms of bigotry and racism are strictly forbidden... |

| Very good point liban...there is a different kind of racism, more of a cold racism, without the overt facets of racism in other countries, but just as ugly...in fact racism is toned down here but more widespread I'd say...its spread more evenly across people, not in pockets as elsewhere...everyone holds on at least some bias on that basis here... Its almost a sort of polite racism lol, which is even worse, coz when something is wrong, there is nothing more evil than it going unchallenged...there is no rage and they should be....What is it they say ? “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” there's always a quiet whimper but people always look at the 'big picture' and feel they're better off in relative terms rather than absolute ones, and as a result settle for what is really an unacceptable situation...not sayin I'm not guilty of the same, but every once in a while the bubble bursts and the farce of it all is quite palpable. I guess the people who tolerate racism directed at them are also partially to blame, but of course not to the same degree as those who profit from it, and certainly not as much as the perpetrators. In a way its become so ingrained because both sides accept as a fact of life....its multitiered as well with diff groups of nationalities as diff levels...there's a peckin order for sure...whats odd is that people of one race will discriminate against those of the same race in favor of someone up the pecking order...guess everyone just tries to rise above by ingratiating themselves to the 'privileged' ones...sigh don't see it changing anytime soon though |

| At least they dont stick the dogs and fire hoses on you. It seems to be a more implied racism, which is almost the worst kind, becasue it gets excepted as "just the way it is" |
| abs |
| Oh yes..its here. Racism. But then I wouldn't "knock over the whole boat of passengers with 1 bamboo pole" A word of advise. When you face such things, just give them a smile you would give a child and walk away. Let them know you have more class then they think. Afterwards they will realise it themselves. Some atleast. Its when you try to stand up for it is when you bring yourself down to their level. Stay up there, friends. Don't stoop. Peace and grace to you all. |

| THat "Turn the other cheek" $hit doesnt work. Revolution is the only way for these people to realize that there is a huge social and economical imbalence. |
| Liban |
| You have to educate them. Islam embraces all races, ethnicities and creeds as one. We are all God's servants. The people that are racist need to understand that we are all God's creations and we are without any right at all to pass judgment. Only He can. But if we are injured then Islam allows us to seek justice but only as per Sharia law. Gowing beyong Islamic law and seeking human justice is illegal. |

..and they say its the "religious people" thats causing all the fighting... |
| Liban |
| Religious people do not cause fighting... Misguided people who think they are religious cause fighting... |
| Pumpkin Escobar |
| Me being neither, just someone who likes people to think on their own....... |
| Nik |
| Well I agree if someone SAYS something racist, you can turn the other cheek and take the moral high ground, but its stupid not to stand up to racist ACTIONS, one should not go gently into the good night...I'm not saying return the favor in kind ie; stoop to reverse racism, but fight against the injustice inflicted upon you...that said, as a product of dubai, I probably wouldn't even do that coz we're so inured to it being systemised...which is something I'll always feel ashamed of, but not strive to change unfortunately...Hmm y'know what people make fun of the US being such a litigious society, where lawsuits take place even for frivolous reasons, but I think thats a much better way than turning a blind eye to discrimination of any sort, or allowin the status quo....how many people sue here against the over racial discrimination that takes place on the job scene and in terms of remuneration? Much better to have a 1000 frivolous lawsuits than to let one person get unjustly victimized I say One fact we have to face is that all of us have some prejudices or the other, thats how we're wired....someone is not racist just because they have those prejudices in their hearts, they're racist when they air it publicly....thats what civilization is all about, reining in the baser animal instincts that feel good, for the general welfare and harmony of society...lol sorry if I sound preachy on this, but its really been something thats boggled my mind in the last few years |

well said. Dubai is low in human rights . |
| nezar33 |
| Guys..Dubai is still a new city and its growing so fast. before people who were living in this country were local and anyone who comes to the country was coming for work most likely in (construction or even as a housekeeper)..right now the country is growing so fast that new laws is coming each days. example foreigner could buy property and live in dubai, couple of years ago we couldnt see that happening. About being racist i think it depends to the person, however; most likely you wont experience any racist act in Dubai since people are very peacful out there. |

| My family lived in Sharjah for 45 years...thts right 4 and a half decades...do i see any facilities or advancement.....> no coz its open to nationals who got the citizenship by links...b4 i wanted citizenship now my whole family hates....If we were in Britain we would be lving 10000 times better... |
| Chocoholic |
| Don't even get me started on that! |
| Liban |
So go to Britain.... Or Canada.... Or the States..... People come to the UAE to make money not to become citizens.... Besides I'd rather be Canadian than Emirati and immigrating to Canada for you is easy easy easy.... So why not leave and stop complaining? |
| BobbieMasoner |
| Agreed, Liban. People need to stop bloody well complaining- leave if you don't like it here. Everyone's here to make money, not to become a lifelong citizen. Why complain about things you can't change? waste of breath. |

Same here, gotta love being Canadian, all round nice people 8) |

Actually, I disagree. It isnt rare for asians to have made it to the top.. A good chunk of the very wealthy and successful people in Dubai are in fact Asians.. but a little clarification is needed here.. what people say here is true in the context of an asian working for someone (that just blows). But most of the successful millionare asians in Dubai (and there are a LOT of them) run their own businesses. Most business people in the UAE are in fact Arabs and Indians. You will not find that many westerners starting their own business here. That may be bcuz they are satisfied with their salaries or bcuz they dont see the UAE as a long term place and just see it as a transient one. That is why I decided a long time ago that if I was going to return to Dubai from Canada it would be for business only. No way was I going to come here and work for some company and have another person doing the exact same job as me get paid more just bcuz of skin colour or nationality. I believe that you get paid according to the value and skills/experience you bring to a company NOT your damn nationality or skin colour. I do not put up with that crap -- period. But then running a business aint easy and isnt for everyone.. so in the end it depends on your personality, your situation, and what you can take... As for the original poster, Dubai has come a longg way since the 70s mind you. Foreginers being able to own property was unimaginable.. so buy a house if you want to get a residence visa.. the UAE doesnt grant citizenship and you have to realize that. maybe they will in the future to long time residents who knows! |

I guess Liban was kicked from that part of continent. |

hahaha well Britain is better but never try to wish for Europe. You will clearly see the difference between White and Black. why do you not spend sometime here in Europe :0) . Well Dubai is much much better than white land. I think you better talk to D-Unti she would guide u better :0). |

| Yes UAE is so strict against demographic changes in the area due to decision making problem. As I know, the GCC area policy is determined by many factors. Saudi Arabia for example, according to some different understanding of Islam, it always tends to prevent cohabitation between Muslims an others. And UAE can’t stand apart. Another big fact, the area is fully dominated by US politic influence and secured by its troops in the Arabian Gulf, Saudi, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain. Thus, nothing counteracts US interest can happen. Nationalization of expat residents in GCC obviously will yield of much more national development, and will request higher development budget and income sources. This is while US regards the whole area as a “generous” source of black gold and it works against any changes that pass up the need of its products and armed forces, or any changes that content the area with its resources. Yes, the area is a bit of US colony, but still, Arab are not raciest, especially in GCC area where the classy segment is mostly of dark skinned ppl. |

| Is it true that it is common for an indian to be refused entry to a pub or club? |
| XRW-147 |
| If you look like rags and have no 'accessory' on ur arm then yeah, its quite true. |
| sniper420 |
if thry dont allow take a sniper rifle and burst the head of the bouncer. When experts investigate they will find in the bullet in micro letter "Stop racism and Mo fos lemme in" that will teach a lesson . |
| Lee |
Hey who the f..k fool u with this bullsh..t? that’s defiantly lie whatever you look like. Yes, they verify your age coz no entry for under 21 years, but they even don’t bother asking about nationality. In fact is a bit of the other way. If u r dressing local dress (UAE national dress), you will be refused to enter by UAE law itself. Also, I don’t know if you know that UAE Arabs look extremely like Indian while all pubs staff and guards speak only English, so there is no way for them to distinguish nationalities. They never ask you for your ID if you look over 21 years. And they are NOT entitled to ask about your nationality. |

| There is no doubt about it. Racism is there. But not on the government level. But Ignorance is on the incline here. An agent who gets official work done at the immigration, who prefers wearing shalwar kameez coz it represents his culture is automatically considered a pathan and treated like an illiterate..... whereas in Pakistan or India Sindhi's Punjabi's balochis brohis memon kachi muhajir they all wear shalwar kameez..... And mostly if you are a Pakistani..... Arabs don't say paki.... they will refer to you as Hindi..... any one seen Idiocracy? |

| No, Neither UAE in general nor Dubai in particular is a racist. No such animal is here. Those of you who claim Dubai is a racist nation or city, ought to cite a single example. All people are equal before the law. Take the labopr department as an example. In most cases they rule for the employees against the "local" employer. I will go to the extent of saying, UAE is a role model for the world. It is a peace-loving & business minded country, welcoming people from all walks of life, and extends a hand of help to all who are in distress. So, if you think otherwise, by all means, pack up and go home. End of the story. |
