I'M IN DUBAI!!!!

Arrived in Dubai yesterday safely at 5:30am. It already feels like I've been here for a week! Staying at 'The Gardens' near Ibn Battitu (spelling?) mall. Suggestions on what to do/see/eat/drink etc...?? There's no way you can get a feel for Dubai, even though there are countless shows on Nat. Geo./Discovery back in Aus etc. It truly is something you have to see to believe. I spent all day yesterday taking pictures of half-completed buildings haha =)

welcome Mike! i'm headed into my 3rd month (from Scotland Island if you know Pittwater at all!) and having a ball. my newby suggestions for the "feel" of the place: take a walk around the abra (water taxi) area on the weekends-- a good chance to see the "real" (ie. non-western ex-pat) dubai do the desert safari (my wife & daughter came out from oz for a 2 week hols and they got a big kick out of this) and of course check out the emirates mall and in-door skiing also, try a shisha (water pipe)! pretty cheap and available in various cafes if you want to grab a fosters sometime, pm me!
