hiya all Can anyone out there give me some guidance re Driving Licences and Car Insurance please. Ok, i have a UAE driving licence and insurance etc. The car is registered to me, as is the insurance policy. If my wife visits with the children on her own, what are the legal technicalities regarding her driving my car. She doesnt have a UAE DL, only her UK one. I appreciate she is able to hire a car with no problems. Can i "add" her to my insurance policy as an additional driver?? If yes, can she drive my car on her UK licence.? If no, can she drive my car on her UK insurance and UK licence (as long as this is approved by our UK insurance company) Would i be correct in understanding that Dubai Taffic Dept is able to issue "temporary Driving Licences" to those on a 60 day visit visa? many thanks

To be honest, it might a lot easier just getting her a UAE DL. It does not take too long (max half a day) and just simply ad her to your existing insurance. Other than that, I have no idea of the lagalities on the other issues. You may well have to contact your insurance people.

but i didnt think you could have a UAE Driving licence without Residency?

Having recently moved here, my experience has been:- * you can only drive a hire car with a UK license (and that only in Dubai, not other emirates) * you can get a temporary UAE license (they gave me 6 months) by spending an hour or so at the Dubai traffic place by the airport. (Tell your wife to bring both plastic and paper part of her license). Go early. * with this UAE license you can drive a privately owned car all care, but no responsibility taken! Good luck

no probs yorky lol do any of you know the procedure and cost for adding a wife to car insurance - is it similar and as easy to the UK system - probably not knowing UAE lol cheers

No, I have no idea. I think adding a person is fairly simple though. I am sure you can add a name driver, providing you have fully comp insurance.
