The UAE has no local medical insurance underwriters (as far as I'm aware of), most expatriates’ us e private medical health companies such as BUPA (http://www.bupa.co.uk/) to provide for their medical insurance. You may well find one or two local insurance brokers offering a variety of products, but you can simply register independently and save yourself the sales commission. Normally private medical insurance is not covered by the employer; most only offer the mandatory “government medical card” which entitles you to subsidized treatment at a government hospital. Shop around for medical insurance if you have the luxury of time, check which local hospitals are supported by the scheme you are investigating and what the scheme offers with regards to outpatient procedures. Normally they have a variety of “packages”. Another thing to consider is that some plans allow you to shop around for quotations in the case of large expense items (such as non-time critical surgery), here you may be able to weigh up the benefit and costs of having something such as surgery performed in another country or better equipped facilities. Others to look at: http://www.medibroker.com/ http://www.goodhealthworldwide.com/
