Fayz attempts a Dubai Forums Meet,

Well it looks like the other event attempts seem to be at a standstill so I’m going to try to organize one. (if this is not the case I apologize for stepping on any toes) First I’d like to ask that this topic remain focused on meeting up. This means NO attacks on people, their ideas or social/religious values. I ask you all use a little self control. For example if somebody suggest a BBQ and Pork/Alcohol comes in to the Mix and you ain’t feeling that an appropriate answer would be I would vote for no pork/alcohol not a personal attack on the person or his values, I’ll treat this thread as a majority rules. Secondly I’m the laziest person you’ll ever meet so anybody willing to volunteer is greatly appreciated, I was born to delegate ;) I ask all interested people to comment on the following, I really am looking for suggestions. Below are some, feel free to add. For myself, I cannot do anthing after the end of this month as we start a uge project at work and I may be out of the country for extended periods of time... I prefer to alcohol, and no pork, and no bars... But thats just me :wink: If the majority wants these things, then I wish you guys a great time!! We could also do it in my building, the pool area is always empty and I am buddies with the security people...

you guys are making this WAY too complicated :) democracy doesnt work its the arab world my friends haha all you should do is set a time/place and just go out and have fun. if two people show up thats a success ... coz a "meet" happened. Dont expect all the members to show up on the first time. coz alot of people will wanna wait and see how the first one goes .. no one killed anyone, there wasnt a psycho stalker , etc ... and as time progresses more and more people will show up at those meets if you guys make it a regular thing. just my 2 fils .. and i apologize for not staying on topic.

I spoke to security in my building. They will authorize me holding a pool side event under the following guidlines: 1) No alcohol 2) No loud music The pool and jacuzzi will both be open for us to use. There are also lawn furniture for us to sit on. We just need a BBQ. I would also ask that we keep it open to the building security so if they wish to have some food and drink they can since they authorized this for us :) Liban

First I'd like to thank everyone for replying and keeping it Civil. Majority rules, so it'll be the weekend of March 3rd and a Shisha venue as that seems to work best for most people. Okay so here we go, I hope you can all make it. March 3rd 8pm Shisha Place in the Dubai Marina It is a nice open venue that is pretty chilled, easy place to talk, socialize and not overly pricey. I ask that if you are coming just to send me a quick PM, friends, family are welcome, I just need to know roughly how many people to expect to ensure that seating is adequate. Look forward to meeting you all soon. I know Dubai tradition states that whoever invites treats but in this regard I say viva le Dutch!!

OK. Very easy. Lets say you are coming from Dubai side... Which is to say passing the first, second, third interchanges. Emirates Mall is the third interchange. The next one is right after DIC, American Univeristy and co... When you see the Hard Rock Cafe you will see an exit right after (4th interchange). Take it. There is a fork. Keep to the left. Go straight. Pass light one. Go straight. At second light, turn left. Keep to the left. At light, turn left. Keep to the right. At light, turn right. 20 meters or so down you will see a roundabout. All arond it there is parking. This is the Parking for ther Marina Walk. Get out of your car and onto the walk. In the center of the walk is a water fountain. The sisha place is right by the fountain, tyou cannot miss it. Ciao!

Either that or come straight down Beach road all the way to the Marina. You'll go through one set of lights and the Meridien hotel will be on the right. You'll be at the point of Liban's directions where you need to stay to the left and take the next set of lights.

Along the al soufah road i reckon is easier, then just hang a left at lights by Meridian Mina Seyai - basically XRW's suggestion. Libans is ok as well, but the temporary exit by the Hard rock cafe is a nightmare with traffic or there is now a new exit past int 5 that takes you to the rear end of the marina and puts you on the upper road and back along to marina walk,

Yer EJ Basically if you are coming off at Int 4 by Emirates Mall then head onto the Al soufah Road (which is the Junction of Mina A Salam/ wild Wadi) Take a left onto Al Soufah Road and just go all the way until you pass the Meridian Mina , then get into the left hand lane and take a left at the next lights. Marina Walk is 2/3 roads on your right. Note to All drivers. If you drive directly down Marina Walk, at the bottom there is a Valet Parking Service , and it's FREE. so dont bother parking on the road etc.

Yes, I wanted to say thanks to Fayz and Intimacy for looking after us so well yesterday. They were talking with the shisha/restaurant staff to get us a place where we all fit, and they were on the phone constantly helping get everyone to the venue. Also, they organised cakes to celebrate Liban getting hitched this coming week. It took effort and you sacrificed some of your relaxation and socialising time to look after us - so thank you very much gentlemen! It was really nice to meet you all! :D

I would agree that posting photos is a no no, I did take a couple shots and if anyone who was physically there requests a copy they can send me an SMS with their email (SMS as I'll verify your number) and send you a copy. It was a good chance for people to meet but I value my privacy from the thousands of lurkers out there as i'm sure many of you do as well. Yshimy habibi i'd stalk you, although i think EJ is ahead of me in line hehehehe........ just stirring the pot with my wooden spoon.

I love Haighs!! :D Lived around the corner from the factory. They are the only choc. factory in Australia that roasts their own cocoa beans. Lindt is a good substitute. Haighs choc frogs rule though!! No Bilbies for Easter this year I am afraid. :cry:
