| I work from home using the internet and I need to use sites like Wikipedia and many other related sites that are banned in some countries. 1. What is the extent of internet censorship in Dubai? 2. I hear if you live in a certain "zone" you will not have censorship. Is this true? 3. Are sites like Myspace and Wikipedia really blocked for everyone? I will not be renting an office, I work from my home, but I need to access many of these sites. |

AFAIK, most of adults-related (p0rn), VoIP, offensive videos/pictures, some file-sharing sites, etc. As for VoIP, I hear that the authority will remove the ban this December/January. Wikipedia is still Ok. MySpace/YouTube was blocked, but now they've unblocked due to people's requests. You need to work in Dubai Internet City Free Zone  or use some kind of http-tunneling or external proxies (never tried myself though). |
