Which mall/shopping centre do you think is the best in Dubai at the moment?
Chocoholic
To behonest the bigger and more sprawled out they are the thought of walking around them just leaves me cold. There's nothing NICE about many of the malls. Some of them need those airport moving walkways running from one end to another, they're too flippin' big!

That's the arab "vision" though isn't it? - the bigger the better? |

OK Yorky, your wish is my command.... by the power vested in me by the Snow Dome..... tomorrow your nuts will drop off, altho I wouldn't give much for a gelding's chances with them classy women walking around Mercato
yorky500
I would love my nuts to be frozen off right now! I am sick to death of sunshine. I want snow, I want rain, I wanna feel cold. For me, Mercato is the best. It does not really have the shops, but it certainly has a better class of women walking around!

There was an article in The Independent recently in which a reporter took a short-break excursion from the UK to Dubai and sampled the shopping experience. Essentially she found all the shops she would have in the UK at prices generally around the same, with some electrical goods etc slightly cheaper. All that was missing were the hoardes of actual shoppers as opposed to those just wandering about with no intention of buying anything other than a coffee. She returned home with some vanilla pods and an incense burner and wondering why the hell she had travelled all that way for a wander around some less-than-appealing giant malls in Dubai. Quite.... For prices, character and everything you could wish for, give me New York.... period. Altho just now you will get your nuts frozen off

Hahahahahhaahhaha, nice one. suppose I could always put my nuts on a block or two of ice, before i drop them in my G&T!

mall of the emirates - ever heard of a shopping mall in the desert where u can ski on ice?
Liban
Its pretty dead as a mall I find. Mall of the Emirates on the other hand.... |
XRW-147
You mean snow... |
XRW-147
Ever since MOE opened up that's very true. Although its handy when you don't fancy lining up for hours to buy groceries. |
Liban
But Geant seems kinda pricey compared to Carrefour I find... No??
XRW-147
Some things are - detergent and some imported items. But 'fresh' produce are on par - bread, milk, fruits and veggies. I live between the two of them so depending on which day I feel like doing my shopping I'll alternate between the two. But as a matter of convenience going down to Geant to get some bread and bottle of milk is less of a painful (time consuming) exercise than going to Carrefour.
Liban
Dude, I am pretty much on the same boat as you and work the same way. Somewhat between the two (closer to Battuta), go to Battuta for essentials, Carrefour for major shopping. Plus parking in Emirates Mall is a hassle.
ross392
snow/ice/frozen h20/cold object that turns to part water and partly evaporates into air bcoz of heat, all the same to me! :D |
XRW-147
I'd like to see you tackle a ski slope made of ice :) |

Same dude, I live in Dubai Marina 2nd Development. So near that little slip road between the main interchange being refurbished and the Battuta interchange. |
Liban
OMG!!!! Dude, we are neighbours!!!!! I am right there too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What building? Now we gotta meet :)
XRW-147

Liban
I'd say that again!

Whoa one year after posting and this thread's still alive lol! At the moment, my fav. one is MOE, in 3 years time it will be Dubai Mall ;)

Each to there own, but I can't stand Mall's - there is nothing more boring to me then walking around a big marbled centre with awful music playing in the background. This security guard describes it best to me: Linky! But I am like that anywhere - I don't enjoy shopping. I tend to have my mission; Go in get what i need and get the hell out. I would much rather sit in down town Diera and watch real life go by whilst stoking on a shisha.[/url]

for me no.1 in those choices is emirates but my best mall is abu dhabi marena mall specially in the morning or day time its fantastic calm very calm and everything you need there ..... but its out of forum range :)

What Dubai needs is an Istanbul-Style Grand Bazaar. Big glossy malls with empty high street stores is repetitive and boring
giggsy
I've got a soft spot for the City Centre. Although last time I was there it was crazy busy and seemed a bit run down as far as Dubai mall standards go. MOE is quite nice though.

I love Mall of the Emirates, my credit card is a great proof!
Mashaal
hmm, a few malls are not mentioned, I'm guessing you guys probably dont like it. I like a mall thats less crowded preferably the one that got stripped - Wafi Mall. A good place to chill and shop, another one with similar characteristics but more at a higher end would be Madinat Jumeirah ! Otherwise when you live in the Gardens - Jabel Ali, Batouta seems the best mall. Even otherwise its got a unique idea. Its got superb ambiance all around the mall. The only drawback for most famlies, It dosent have a very high tech play area for the kids and the food court is awful. Otherwise your away from the crowd that simply loafs around in City Center, Bur Juman etc. (I mean the high school kids who do nothing but look for skin and if the temper seems out of control, the look for blood too) Besides, the women in Batoota are "fabloustic"
