I am intrigued to go to Dubai from California and try to find a job. I am 55 and I wonder if there is any age discrimination. I know that in some countries of Europe they put in the ad for instance: Peopel over 30 should not apply. I have a M.Sc. degree from the Univ. of Illinois and would like to work in Real Estate or Management or TV/Film industry. Andrew

the labour department prohibits the renawal or application for a work permit for those who have reached "retirement age" - which here in the uae is 60. there are exceptions of course :) - particularly highly qualified/ specialised consultants - and then the sponsor has to make application for a special dispensation (to the dept. of immigration). under the immigration department you could be issued with a residency visa at age 60 (or above) if you are buying a property, but this does not allow you to work

i see that i have not answered your question in full. there is no age stipulations normally placed in the advertising of a position, in most instances experience is rather seen as an advantage rather than a drawback. although as i mentioned in my previous posting, once you get to about 57 years of age the company may start to look at the long term issues regarding the appointment
